Street Beats
by SteV-O
"Find that perfect song for the perfect moment"

Available on the Android Market now!

Street Beats allows you to search your Androidâ„¢ device for music based on pieces of information such as song title, artist, genre, album name, year, or even by lyrics. The program will generate a playlist of music matching your criteria, and allows you to play either one song at a time from the list or export the entire list into your favorite music player.

Scroll no more through long lists of music on your device to find the song you want to hear!

The simple interface allows you to choose whether you wish to search by Metadata (artist, title, year, etc.) or Lyrics. You can type your query or click on the giant Microphone button to speak your query. Hit the Submit button, and your playlist will be presented! Lyrics queries are handled by ChartLyrics and will return all matching songs in their database, whether you have them or not. Songs listed in green are present on your device and are playable; songs in gray are not available on your device. The search assumes the metadata in your music files is correct.

This application was developed in conjunction with the Interactive Audio Lab at Northwestern University, a federally-funded research group by the NSF in the United States. Pending regulatory approval, Street Beats will feature a front-end to their query-by-hum service, called Tunebot. This will allow you to query for music on your phone by singing or humming it! Meanwhile, you may contribute to Tunebot's body of known music at tunebot.cs.northwestern.edu.

The application will only search through music present on your device's external storage card.

This is the main screen. Choose Metadata or Lyrics as your search method, then type your query into the box or hit the Microphone button to speak it. Then, hit the Search button to generate your playlist. When you search by Metadata, all your results will be green. Tap a song to play it, or tap the "Send To Playlist" button to send the entire results list to your favorite music player. When you search by Lyrics, the songs in gray were not found on your device, based on matching metadata. The matches indicate exactly what file was matched, so you can see if it is indeed the song you expect.

Owtsee
by SteV-O
"Find your way Owt"

Available on the Android Market now!

Owtsee helps you find Chicago public parks near you, and lists what amenities, events, and programs they feature. The very first screen on the application tells you what events are planned at parks near your location. You can also search over the entire Chicago park system for parks that meet your needs. Want to find a park with a beach and a dog-friendly area? Owtsee has you covered! You can also get social with events you like by sharing them on Twitter, Facebook, SMS, Gmail, or any other compatible social app you have installed on your device. If the park is available on Foursquare, you can add it to your list of places to visit. Also, if a park or event interests you, you can conveniently add it to your Google Calendar.

Currently Owtsee can help you find out the amenities offered at 575 city parks, events at 565 parks, programs at 190 parks, and add 144 parks to your list of places to visit on Foursquare. Future releases will incorporate even more parks, and also feature other attractions such as landmarks, libraries, and technology centers!

This is a contest entry for the Apps for Metro Chicago's community round (http://www.appsformetrochicago.com). If you enjoy this app, please vote for me!
